Emporion

EMPORION bears its name for the Iberian colony of Emporion, archaeological site, where there is a Greek city next to a Roman. Inspired by the blend of these cultures I made it with gemstones that ancients wore: garnet, banded agate and roman coins but approached from a modern point of view. The name Garnet, derives from the Latin "granatus"=seed, related to pomegranate seeds which garnet resembles in color and luster. It is associated to the mythological goddess Persephone, who brings Springtime-fertility when she comes out of the underworld, but also to bring Wintertime-death when she returns to it.
